FRUIT WARS!! Also, Taking A Break...

WE DID IT! With the publication of “Fruit Wars”, a full year of weekly Food Fight strips is complete. It was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Of course, this isn’t about us; it’s about you, the readers. We can’t thank you enough for taking the time to check out the strips. We hope you enjoyed reading the weekly adventures of Apple and Banana as much as we enjoyed bringing them to life.

That said, we’ve got a bit of bittersweet news to report today. The Food Fight team has decided to take a big break. All of us, Dan, Jon and Tom, have a lot going on in our lives and keeping up with the weekly grind has become a bit much.

As for the future, we have not decided on an alternative publishing schedule yet. We do hope to release new material online, we just don’t know when and how frequently. All updates will be presented through the regular outlets such as this blog, twitter, and Facebook.

We have plans to put together and publish a high quality printed collection of the strips featuring tons of bonus content, including never before seen strips, exclusive pinups and production artwork. We may also be printing up some cool t-shirts for interested fans so keep an eye out!

Again, thank you so much to everyone who checked out the strip!! Watch this space for the latest news on the future of Food Fight.

Food Fight II: Future War!

The wonderful thing posted above this text is today's strip. We wanted to put a larger version up as opposed to the one on the main website, view here http://www.foodfightcomic.com/. We're working on making it so that you can click on the strip on the main site to see a larger version in cases like this where it's nice to have a bit of a larger view.

Anyway, this strip marks the second official "food fight" strip where we had some fun and pitted Apple and Banana against each other in some genre bending mortal combat. We are going to try and do this every 5 strips, may take us a while to get ahead enough to do this as these strips are usually a bit more labor intensive than the regular weeklies. These are a heck of a lot of fun to do though so we'll see what happens.

Below is a pencil drawing done for the first panel of today's strip.

If you're attending and you spot one of us, mention the strip and Tom will do a sketch for you. See, I can make wacky promises/offers like this because the likelihood that someone who reads this blog will be at MOCCA, much less find Jon Wood or I is remote at best. Seriously though, we'd love to run into some fans. As of now, we'll be there for Sunday only. Should be fun!

I have been reading a lot of 90's Image comics lately, been loving it! I have rediscovered the great Jim Lee and appreciate his awesomeness in a whole new light. I'm so into the Image approach lately that I have even been looking at Rob Liefeld's work and enjoying it, please don't stop reading yet. I would never allow Rob's work to influence me as far as technical drawing approach but I appreciate the entertainment value of his art.

Anyway, I did this random drawing of Apple which was influenced by the 90's stuff I've been reading lately. I could have pushed it a lot more, I hope to eventually, but this one is fun enough for now.
